The Independent Music Exporters South Africa (IMEXSA), together with South by Southwest (SXSW®), (a US based Music Conference and Festival), would like to invite South African interested musicians to apply to showcase at the above show under the IMEXSA umbrella. IMEXSA's focus is to develop and increase the number of music exporters in South Africa by identifying trade opportunities and assisting companies to take advantage of those opportunities. IMEXSA has been operating over the past 7 years. During this time they have participated in and presented South African Unsigned and Independent Music Professionals at Popkomm-Germany, Midem – France, Africa Festival – Germany, Women – UK, Primavera Pro – Spain, Canada Music Week in Toronto, and South by Southwest (SXSW®) in Austin – Texas. South by Southwest (SXSW) Music Conference and Festival takes place every March alongside SXSW Film and Interactive. Now in its 31st year, SXSW Music has been one of the largest, most influential and anticipated annual events worldwide for over a quarter of a century. A total of 27,991 participants from 82 countries attended the Music Conference in 2014, continuing a tradition of growing in culture and quantity. SXSW® is undoubtedly the premier destination for discovery. Year after year, the event is a launching pad for new creative content. New media presentations and music showcases provide buzz-generating exposure for creators and compelling entertainment for audiences. Conference panel discussions present a forum for learning; business activity thrives at the Trade Shows and global networking opportunities abound. Intellectual and creative intermingling among industry leaders continues to spark new ideas and carve the path for the future of each ever-evolving field, long after the events’ conclusion. For artists to perform at this event there is an application process that they will need to follow. If selected to showcase, you will automatically receive SXSW artist wristbands as a benefit for performing. Artist wristbands grant free access to other official SXSW showcases, parties, conference programming, artist specific activations and more (unless otherwise noted). ARTIST wristbands are for band members ONLY. Each performing artist has an option to purchase two discounted general SXSW MUSIC FESTIVAL wristbands for working crew members. The wristbands cost between $825 to $1325, (approximately R11 550 - 18545), depending on when one buys them. SXSW Showcasing Artists benefit from career changing exposure and publicity provided by the amazing mix of influential participants who attend SXSW every year. Showcasing at SXSW means performing in one of Austin’s famous live music venues for 30,000 industry reps, 3,000 media members, and thousands of fans and fellow musicians from all over the world. This could serve as a stepping stone for an artist’s career to break onto the international scene. Sonicbids is the exclusive online musical event application platform of the 2017 SXSW Music Festival. Visit sonicbids.com/sxsw to start the application process. Application Fees and Deadlines • SXSW 2017 Early Deadline: Friday, September 9, 2016 at 11:59PM EDT ($35 fee) • SXSW 2017 Final Deadline: Friday, October 21, 2016 at 11:59PM EDT ($55 fee) SXSW has availed a limited number of submission coupons to IMEXSA. These coupons will help you waive paying the application fees above. If interested in one of them, please send us an email that includes your Sonicbids EPK link. We will select a few to receive the coupons. Every artist is however still encouraged to submit to Sonicbids on their own. Please do notify IMEXSA once you have submitted. This is so that, should you be selected to showcase, then your showcase will receive FREE extensive marketing by IMEXSA through its exhibition stand and also its widely established network of international partners from various countries. They can also be included in IMEXSA’s SA Music Compilation CD that gets distributed freely to conference attendees to further market the artists. Of importance is to note that there is no payment for taking part in the event, (apart from the free wristbands). Artists also have to pay for their own travel, food accommodation, and Visa costs. IMEXSA can assist in facilitating some of these logistics but artists will have to make payments from their own pocket. This, however, is a small price to pay, given the myriad opportunities that the artists can garner by being part of this exciting event. Those interested in the free submission coupons should send in their EPKs to IMEXSA (firstname.lastname@example.org) on or before 30 August 2016.
